US President Donald Trump has granted a one-month exemption to auto tariffs on Mexico and Canada.
This was stated by White House press secretary Caroline Leavitt, who gave some details during a press conference with the media at the White House.
โWe spoke with the three giants of auto sales. We will grant a one-month exemption for every vehicle that goes through the USMCA,โ Trump said in a statement read aloud by Leavitt.
โThe reciprocal tariffs will take effect on April 2. However, at the request of the companies that are associated with the USMCA, the president is granting them a one-month exemption so that they are not at a disadvantage economically,โ she added.
In contrast, Canada yesterday imposed a 25 percent tariff on all American products.
